I’m always interested in performance , Linux gives you the choice to get most optimized software by compiling the source code, so it will fit exactly to your hardware. But in fact
such compiling process is not easy and you have very wide knowledge of programming and application specific issues. so we all prefer general binaries.But may it will be a good idea to get more optimised binaries for such very common applications , like Firefox ,exhaust allot of resources, without compiling .
i found the SwiftFox , different compilations for various Processors .it’s easy if you have an Ubuntu distribution or any other Debian based distribution you have only to add their repository
“
Instructions for installing with apt-get
- Add the repository to /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://getswiftfox.com/builds/debian unstable non-free
- Install from a terminal window as root using the correct package name:
apt-get update && apt-get install swiftfox-athlon-xp
Package names are based on the specific architecture and can be found here. If you are not sure which architecture you need for your processor this chart should help.

you can also use the the installer it’s very simple , just install it in your home directory
i want to hear your revwies about the performance gained
